1. Research and Identification
- Identify the community and/or school in rural India that lacks access to diverse literature and academic resources.
- Needs-Based Assessment: Interview school staff, local educators, and community leaders to understand specific needs: network with facility to understand infrastructure gaps (from furniture, technology tools, to the books).
- Collect data and build an understanding on the students' literacy levels and English fluency
- Interview the students themselves: via focused-group discussions and one-on-one meetings, we ask students their about career interests and aspirations, hobbies, daily life, and more.
2. Partnership Development and Networking
- Collaborate and establish relationships with local NGOs, schools, and community stakeholders. Building partnerships with local establishments is essential as they can help RLE support the field work.
- Network with philanthropists, organizations, and potential donors to raise funds for the library.
3. Curating Book Selection
- Collaborate with educators, librarians, and literary experts to curate a diverse collection of books catering to different age groups, genres, and interests.
- Ensure the selection includes books that reflect cultural diversity and relevant themes for the target communities.
- We want to source books in local languages (ex. Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, etc.) as well to promote bilingual literacy. RLE would love to connect with local publishers and authors to source culturally relevant and engaging content. RLE prioritizes the representation of local languages
4. Logistics and Distribution
- Develop a logistical plan for buying, transporting, and distributing books to the selected schools.
- Work with local vendors, publishers, distributors, and volunteers to facilitate the procurement and delivery process.
5. Community Engagement and Awareness
- Organize workshops, reading sessions, and literacy programs in collaboration with local educators and volunteers.
- Promote the importance of reading and literacy within the community through awareness campaigns, storytelling sessions, and interactive activities.
6. Monitoring and Evaluation
- Implement monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to assess the impact of the initiative on literacy rates, student engagement, and community development.
- Collect feedback from educators, students, and parents to continuously refine and improve the program based on evolving needs and challenges.
