Maleroppam Village Literacy and Empowerment Community Center

collaborating with Vicente Ferrer foundation

RLE is thrilled to announce our partnership with VFF-USA in supporting the Maleroppam Village's community center. The center is actively serving 84 students from the local communities. There are over 190 families in the village and our goal with this initiative is to develop a way to provide all these individuals access to sustainable educational initiatives and literature.

Support our fundraiser

Shaunya is peer-to-peer fundraising for India Giving Day 2025 for VFF-USA. All funds raised will go to our work in Maleroppam.

our initiative goals

The VFF team has worked in the community for several months and they've invited RLE to lead their resource development, library setup, and educational programs. Here are our collaboration's primary goals are:

  1. Culturally Relevant and Multilingual Libraries – We will lead the library development and ensure that we source the literature in regional languages like Kannada, Marathi, and Hindi alongside English. We aim to make the literature accessible and engaging for students from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
  2. Empowering Local Educators and Volunteers – With VFF, RLE will train local teachers and volunteers to effectively integrate library resources into their curriculum. We're also hoping to establish a volunteer-driven system where local educators and students help maintain and manage the literacy center.
  3. Digital Learning Access and Infrastructure Development– Implementing digital learning tools and resources to supplement traditional literacy efforts. And finally, we'll fund the installation of furniture, bookshelves, and study spaces to create a functional learning environment.

Other initiatives we're hoping to develop and support together:

  • Supplementary Education: We want to offer academic support to the students who otherwise at their local government schools face barriers like discrimination, financial constraints, and lack of access to quality resources.  Our goal is to enhance learning outcomes and improve overall school performance.
  • Dropout Prevention & Parent Counseling: With VFF members, we're implementing  attendance monitoring and intervention programs to help keep children, especially girls, in school.
  • Economic Empowerment for Women & Disabled Individuals: RLE is excited to support VFF host income-generating workshops and self-help group activities to improve financial independence. We will fund financial help literature.
  • Extracurricular Activities & Holistic Development: The space will offer opportunities for sports, yoga, cultural programs, and skill-building to foster well-rounded student growth.
  • Community Integration & Social Cohesion: The center will host village meetings, community events, and government outreach programs to reduce caste-based inequalities and strengthen village unity.

The village’s Community Development Fund will cover ongoing costs like teacher salaries and maintenance, with additional support from the Rural Development Trust (RDT) whenever needed.
